Remington AccuTip Bullets-Best all around bullet??
« on: June 07, 2008, 08:06:53 AM »
It seems to me I read an article in which the author said that the new remington AccuTip was the best all around bullet that is made today.  I looked at remington's sight and the velocity, energy and drop of bullet are incredible and exceed all other bullets I have seen in those regards.  Has anyone tried them?  What has been your experience with them?  Anyone reload them?  Can you duplicate factory specs?  I plan on using them, if I get good feedback, for varmints to deer.

Thanks,

Bob

I can't imagine who other than someone on Remington's payroll would make such comments. It might be a fine bullet for some uses but the best all around nope not a chance. Their accutip varmint bullets do fine but for a hunting bulllet for big game I'd rather have a core loct than the accutip.

I've used about all the available jacketed bullets, am not an avid varminter, and have found the Remington CoreLokt to be totally reliable and as good as a bullet needs to be. It is not considered a 'premium' bullet, but is forsure works.

While it's a nice idea to have a hard tip so that it can be very sharp for ballistic performance without battering in the magazine, evey one of them I have used have been too explosive to be a reliable game getter. I can remember recovering some Remington bronze points from a snowbank. There was nothing left but shrapnel. I also recovered 22 bullets shot at the same time that looked unfired except for the rifling marks.I had also noticed explosive performance on game , so the remainder of the bronze points killed nothing bigger than prairie dogs. When I tried the Nosler plastic tipped bullets I was already suspicious and right away saw explosive terminal performance so they too shot prairie dogs.

I have the same opinion of the Remington CoreLokts. Since you can buy them at a nice discount I shoot them almost exclusively, but the Winchester Power Points and the original Hornaday, Speer, and Sierras are alll very good too. People are spending way too much $ for bullets that work no better, and some of them are even worse than the old standards.

Plastic tipped bullets such as the Nosler, Hornady, Remington, etc. can and do work fine on game under the correct circumstances. For me those circumstances are heavy for caliber bullet shot into the heart/lung area from rounds based on the .308 or .30-06 or smaller cases or from TC handguns. That means no magnum or super magnum rifles and don't shoot for the shoulder bones and don't try Texas heart shots and other poor angle shots.

If you stay within those limits you'll get excellent results from them but in truth no better performance than standard bullets like the Core loct, or the standard lines from Hornady, Sierra or Speer deliver. Deer are not that hard to kill if you place your bullet correctly.
