Bowie Knife Question for Texans
« on: May 27, 2003, 04:52:40 PM »
Can any of you Texans on the forum tell me if it is illegal to carry a (large) Bowie knife hunting?  They are expressly illegal in Texas, except for some specific exceptions (the hunting exception sounds a little shaky).  Any advice will be mucho appreciated.

Bowie knives illegal in Texas! What's the danged world comin to?

Retired Military, 21 years US Navy Seabees started making knives about 5 years ago.  Really like it alot.  Build mostly hunters & skinning knives with a few big bowies.  Logo is grizzly paw.

Bowie Knife Question for Texans

From what I can remember, back in the 80's a law was passed in Texas that prohibited the carrying of a folding knife with a blade in excess of 3-1/2 inches. And I think it also included the carrying of a fixed blade of greater than 4 inches.

I do not believe it affects carrying a knife while hunting. It is most likely affecting someone carrying a large knife for the sake of carrying a large knife within populated areas in towns and cities.

Just from what I remembered.
