It depends on the firearm you will be firing the ammunition in, and on the published data. Many .44 revolvers will not handle the long-seated bullets and few rifles will, so with them you will be limited to using the front cannelure. There is a potentially large performance and pressure difference depending on the cannelure you use, so make sure the data you use is for the short-seated bullets, or vice versa. Check the loa listed for the specific load data to be sure which cannelure that data uses.
