Scope or Not
« on: August 03, 2008, 01:07:39 PM »
I bought a 10" 218 BEE barrel for my Contender.
The main reason for this purchase was to allow me to practice more
without burning more money and barrel in my 7-30 Waters.

The Waters sports a Burris 3X12 and will be used for Whitetail and Javelina.

In the past I did not do allot of shooting but plan on doing allot.

I have a TC 2.5X7 I could put on it.
Just thinking it would be best to practice with a scoped gun also.

I was hoping to use that scope for my 14" 30-30 but my shooting skills
are the most important part of the equation.

I guess my question is:
Can I gain the skills I need with an open sight gun
or should I mount her up?

Thanks,
Mike

The best person to answer that is you. You have to use what works best for you.

I use scope's, red-dots and open sights, it just depends what I feel comfortable with and on what barrel.
If  you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

If you are going to hunt with a scoped handgun, you need to practice with a scoped handgun.

Also, Encores and Contenders are accurate enough that you really need a scope to realize their full accuracy potential.

I scope anything that I am going to try to accuratly shoot beyond 60 yds. I like opens on guns used for drives, where the ranges are short and you have to acquire a target quickly.
