Saturday I bought my wife her first ever firearm, a little inexpensive Taurus .22 for her to mostly look at. She's 71 and was a teacher for 40 years, and the NEA lead her to believe that all firearms were evil. Then she met me...

Anyway, I was looking at two different .22-250 rifles for myself, as a goal to see a long box under the Christmas tree. I had my hands on a Howa, and the trigger was gritty and heavy. I then was handed a Ruger  KM77VT MKII. It was also a heavy rifle and it looked like the barrel channel wasn't as straight as I'd like, but it wasn't touching the barrel, and the trigger was not what you'd expect from an out -of-the-box Ruger. It was wonderful!. The price was a negotiable $699, the same as the Howa, but I don't think there was any comparison.... Now to work on my wife, the keeper of the checkbook,.......and to figure out which scope to get for it...

I have the M-77VT in 22-250...sub moa shooter.  (I bought it for myself when it didn't materialize under the Christmas tree a few years ago)

Weatherby is now advertising their Vanguards at $399 I believe and rumor has it they can be had for less. Remington SPS Varmint rifles generally go for about $550 at least I've bought two at that price this year. My .22-250 so far has been used only with factory Hornady ammo and is shooting right at one half MOA with that. Once I've shot all that up I'll see what some reloads will do.

So buy your Ruger if you wish but based on all the Rugers I've owned and seen shot by others I doubt it will come close to matching a Remington for accuracy.

The VT's have always had a different trigger than the regular MkII's.

If it's anything like my two #1's it will be a good one. However, I've yet to handle a Remington SPS, but I believe my son has one in .223 that is mighty accurate.
