Homebrew patch lube

What kind of recipes do you folks have for patch lube? I used the last of some homemade stuff I had laying around about three days ago and about messed my pants when I saw what Sportsmans wanted for a 16oz bottle of solvent/patch lube.

For cleaning I use tepid water, windshield washer fluid, or Windex.  I never use hot water because it causes rust.

For lube I use oilve oil or 1/3 each olive oil, bee's wax, and lard.  In the winter I increase the olive oil in the mix.

The fat around the kidney's of a deer can be rendered into some nice lube, and of course bear fat can be rendered into a wonderful lube.

Bubber, if you read the "archives" on this web site you'll find about 100 recipies that are home brew.
 I'd tell ya about the "dry lube" patch system for the best results you'll ever find in your life..but if I told you about the secret papers,,well then I'd hafta,,well , let's just let the others tell ya what's best.

I guess I will just have to start shooting with a variety of stuff and see what preforms well and keeps fouling to a minimum.

I used SnoSeal for about 25 years. it works fine...Last summer I mixed up a batch of 2 parts bees wax, 8 parts castor oil and one part Murphy's Oil Soap...Works good so far...

"MOOSE SNOT" This is something I found on a muzzleloading forum, and I like it.
2-oz of Beeswax
8-oz of Castor oil
1-oz of Murphy's

melt beeswax and stir in oils, skim off the froth


A liquid lube that I also picked up the same place

4-TBLS- alcohol
1 1/2- TBLS - castor oil
1 1/2- TBLS- witch hazel
1/2- cup- water

Either works good as a patch lube. I use the snot for hunting and the juice for target shooting.

STP oil additive has worked well for many years. STP also works as a case lube for resizing obsolete brass.

For plinking, trail walks and range work, I use Murphys-peroxide-alcohol (cheap Vodka is great).

simple moose snot==50/50 MOS and neatsfoot oil. (not neatsfoot compound ,it has Mineral spirits in it) you can get pure neatsfoot oil at most tack shops.   shake well before using and use a felt OP wad for hunting loads. not necessary when target shooting.
