Calling any Northern Minnesotan Goose Hunters
« on: August 06, 2008, 08:30:57 AM »
Well, i'm coming home soon, for 18days of mid-tour leave, just at the opener for Goose Season. I'd like to go out and hunt but you all i've ever hunted are Pheseabt
over in Henry, South Dakota and Whitetail Deer near Finlayson,MN.
So my objective with this topic is if anyone has any experience hunting geese up around Northern MN and knows where i can hunt and any advice really. I'm from Duluth,MN by the way, specifically Gary-New Duluth.
consider me a newbie if you'd like i have no experience at all waterfowl hunting.
gonna talk to my neighbor friends about Bear season.

lostsniper308, Bummer :(  ..............I wish I could be there with you. I looked at the other forums I watch, and there's nobody from there.
It's easy though to find where your geese are in your area.....just do a little driving around in the mornings and again in the evenings to find where they are going. What fields they are in.
watch these fields and then get permission to hunt them. Its best if you can find them in a field in the early season,..you won't need any dekes. Just watch the "area" of the field they are using and set your self up there. Ifthe geese are using the field,Don'tmake any distubance where they are landing, for example........no new dirt piles from pit blinds...ect.
Early season geese are usually easy to get,it's  not till after they have been shot at a few times that they seem to all of a suddenn "Remember" last year.
Early season only requires a few dekes......as compared to later.

I bet you ask around locally, you could find some goose hunters that will help you out. Some areas might be pass shooting, while others will be field......thats the way it is.... ;)

Hey, I've been doing it for 37 years now,......and it's always  a challenge.  ;D
Wouldn't have it   any other way.
