Black bear hunting

Can any of ya'll volunteers tell me about hunting bear in ya'lls great state. Is there any public land that out of state hunters can hunt? Are there any guides that I could contact. My dream for a long time is to go bear hunting and hopefully I can do it one day.Most guides for bear are up north or out west which is to for me to go to. I can be sitting in the Volunteer state in about four hours so that ain't to bad. So is there anybody that can give me some info . Thanks in advance.

 no bears that i know of in west tn but will find info for you for middle and east. dj

Check out the South Cherokee National Forest in south east Tn. Both black bear and wild hogs there. It's sandwiched between a large bear preserve and the Great Smoky mountains nat'l park. There are some guided hunts there or you can go on your own.

Most bear are killed on gun hunts in front of dogs but, for the past couple of years, we have had an archery only hunt in September.  Last year, I broke my leg while scouting and my season ended on opening day.  I've taken several nice bears in Canada with my bow while hunting over bait.  We can't bait in Tennessee so bow hunting is sorta like killing time in the woods.

I've got a spot in Sevier County that is within walking distance of Cobbly Knob Resort and borders the Park.  There are bears visiting the cabins at the resort for a garbage feast and those bear are as likely to come my way as not.  I would rate my chances in this case to be about as good as a gun hunt at Tellico. 

That said, if the success rate was 10 % we would be in bear heaven!!
