Soft plastic jerkbaits ?
« on: July 25, 2003, 08:49:55 AM »
Whats the theory on these little plastic fishys.  I bought some berkely inshore 5 inch  jerkbaits this winter when I was in texas to chase pigs. When I finally got around to trying them in early summer I was pleasantly surprised. I caught the heck out of bass with them. One evening I rigged one up for my girlfriend, and she proceeded to catch a 6lb bass, two fives, and about a dozen 1 to 4 pound bass. This is her first year of fishing. I must be a good teacher. Hah!  I used to read everything, but now I'm out of the loop. I've never really seen anything about these lures. How and where are they supposed to be effective. Whats the theory behind how they are supposed to be used. The unsophisticated bass out here hit them like a sunfish hitting a worm under a dock, so I don't think my good luck with them is represenative of their true potential. maybe someone with more experience could shed some light for me.

good fishin guys.

Ever heard the saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it.  If I had just got home from catching a 6 lb a 5 lb and dozen 2,3, and 4 lb bass on a bait, I believe I'd have made a serious note to self about exactly how I was fishing it.

Seriously, these soft plastic fluke and the like are limitless in the way that they are fished.  They can be topwater, suspended, or Rigged either one.  It all works.  The only thing you have to do is get those baits to where the fish are.

There's Fishing and then there's Bass Fishing
Its kinda like the difference between Sandlot Baseball and Playing on the Team.
The difference is Practice

Have you used them? Do you always catch em just by getting them in front of the fish.  Do they work just as well on heavily pressured fish.   Is one season recognized as the best season to fish them. The fish I'm catching have never seen one before so I'm positive that the great luck won't last forever.  I just rigged them on an 1/8 oz jig head for lack of any other knowledge on how to use them.
