Choosing Base/Ring set for 1894 in 357....suggestions?
« on: July 12, 2008, 08:08:17 AM »
Looking at low Talley or Warne weaver style low rings for a 4x33 scope...and undecided on 1 or 2 piece base (Warne STEEL), and if the weaver one piece is as good as any?

Steel vs Aluminum, any reason not to use a 2 piece?

Wanting sleek rock solid mounting, w/o marring scope tube.

Thanks.

IMHO the Weaver base is as good as any, and alot less $.  Can't say I would spend that much $ on either set of rings.  Even Simmons or Weaver rings can be taken off and put back on with little change in shot placement.  DP.

Older Weaver rings would occasionally scratch your scope, but all that I have used reciently haven't been a problem. I think Weavers are just pretty good stuff and can't see why anyone would need better except high recoil situations where the scope might slip.

Yes, my experience was with older weavers, and they would scratch upon installation if not very careful and often used tape to help.

Thanks.

I have the two piece Warne steel with the weaver type Warne quick release style rings and they look good. I didn't like the look of the long one piece rail running past the receiver. Doesn't have much leeway for your scope mount though.
