.256 cases can be a pain and .25 caliber bullet availability hit & miss unless you cast your own. With that much brass laying around, why not a .357 barrel? Kind of like a heavy .32-20. Bullets are cheap. Cast work fine and you don't have to run it wide open. If you still like something in between, a .25-20 barrel could be fun without the hassle of case forming. They are usually less finicky as to accuracy (I have a Ruger Hawkeye for comparison). In addition to my Marlin lever in .25-20, I have a 10" Contender barrel that gives within 20fps of rifle velocity and ever better accuracy, with factory ammo. In a short rifle a .221 could be real fun without much fuss. Isn't it nice to have options? Good luck.
