micro cannon fuse - on sale right now
« on: June 23, 2008, 03:02:16 PM »
I was ordering some stuff at pyrocreations and I noticed that they were selling 1/16 " fuse in 1500 foot qtys (3 feet lengths x 500) for $49 bucks. That should be close to a life time supply (or at least a years worth ;-) for 95% of us.

Seeing as how the 4th of July is approaching, it probably won't last long

If anyone knows the burn rate of this type of fuse, let us know.  Are we sure it isn't quickmatch rather than fuxe?

I can measure some tonight... I have some left over from the last sale.

Nope, it's not quitckmatch... it burns about the same as common 1/8 inch "visco" cannon fuse.

For what it's worth, "quickmatch" is a restricted item... complex shipping and I believe it requires a BATF explosive license to order. It's ironic that it is so simple and so legal to make at home.

Rickk,

Thanks for the heads up on the 1/16 fuse. I have been referring customers to 1.4mm and 1.8mm fuse, thinking that 1/16 wasn't available.

I would like to ship at least a "starter quantity" as a courtesy and a convience with my small barrels.

I burned a foot of it in 24 seconds... 2 seconds per inch.

If one is thinking how to store 3 foot lengths, think PVC pipe with rubber end caps

I would only like to add one thing to the great storage idea ,and that would be to add a desiccant package or two , these are widely available in pill bottles electronics packaging. etc. etc.

The silicon type or calcium oxide type can be found in bulk bags of desiccant beads at hobby shops, health food stores etc. for cheap, and then make your own cloth bag for them, a teaspoon or two is all thats needed to be effective

This will stay off or absorb any type of moisture that either enters the enviroment or perhaps is created in the enviroment due to condensation, from tempreture changes

As I'm sure the majority is already aware that humidity, followed by drying, can greatly speed up the burning rates of such types of fuse..., it can also make it burn irraticaly or slower, but the faster burn is the one to avoid...

I have used them in large quantities over the years and have had great results in fuse staying true for as long as 7 years, with no change in burning speeds.....................
                                                             just a thought..............
Your efforts towards 100% safety are nearly impossible, and to assume you have achieved it, is the height of folly........

I used some of my just-recieved 1500 foot order yesterday. It works absolutely fine!

I think I'm OK for micro cannon fuse for this year ;-)
