Marlin model 92s
« on: July 22, 2009, 06:42:41 PM »
I have an opportunity to pick up a Marlin model 92s in 45 Colt.  Can anybody tell me if this gun will handle the Ruger +P level loads.  I shoot a 330gr cast bullet that does 1200+ out of my 5.5" Bisley over a heavy dose of H110.  Will the Marlin 92s handle this?

AFAIK, Marlin never made a "Model 92", although their .22 & .32  rimfire Model 1892 was the pre-cursor to the Model 39/39a.

If what you have is either a Winchester 1892/92 or a Rossi Model 92, or a Marlin 1894 - then any of those should handle anything you can safely load for a .45 Colt.
Accuracy may/may not be another issue entirely.

I shoot Cor-Bon +P's in my Rossi w/o any issues.

Thanks for the input.  I'll probably pass on this one.  It just doesn't sound right and the owner shortened the magazine to the length of the forend "to get better shooting".

That mod makes it a half-price rifle IMHO - and could be an excellent bargain to boot.
I wouldn't be TOO hasty, in passing on it, w/o a litle more specific research/input.
