Contender hammer question
« on: July 02, 2008, 06:17:34 AM »
I have been wanting a rimfire barrel for my Contender for a while now and noticed on the hammer of the Contender that the rimfire ??firing pin?? where you switch from Centerfire to Rimfire  was missing.  Is there a place where I can get one of these little pins that go into the holes on the hammer??  What is involved in putting it on?  Thanks

On the 'earliest' frame I have, the rimfire/centerfire selector is on the face of the hammer vs. a later mfg. frame which has the selector on the top of the hammer.  Maybe...?

Hi
T/C has made several hammers. All of them have the ability to shoot rim fire and center fire. The earlier ones you need to use a screw driver on the front face of the hammer, and flip the little striker thingy. Half of it sticks out a little farther then the other half. If you have the protruding part up, it is rim fire, and down is center fire.
Newer hammers have a switch on the top of the hammer. You can move it around, and watch the hammer face there is a little pin sticking out. If it is up , rim fire, and if it is down center fire. Maybe in the middle of switching it around is the safety. I hate to admit it but I don't use the safety. If it is loaded and closed I'm going to shoot, otherwise it is empty and open. If some one wants me to stop I open the frame...Safe.
Hope this helps
jim

I ended up with an older frame from an auction site , with a " change with a screwdriver type " hammer . When I got it I only glanced at it , it appeared ok.  Only after several weeks when I attempted to use my rimfire barrel did I realize the rimfire firing pin was badly bent .  I called T/C explained what I had , they told me to send it to them.......After only a week or ten days...I got it back,  new type ahammer ( selecter on the top )and new firing pin.....all at no charge !!!   Great service ....I can't help but think my "no charge" was an
error , but who am I to question.  Good luck
