« on: January 17, 2009, 05:22:40 AM »
hi,are any of you guys familiar with a Burris mount for a top eject M94 that utilizes the rear sight dovetail and drlling and tapping  the rear barrel band. I'm interested in scoping my M94(scout mount)

I've scout-scoped a Winchester 94, using a Burris Scout scope - but not a Burris mount.

I used the XS LeverScout mount - which uses a dovetail adaptor to attach the front of it's Weaver-style rail to the rear barrel sight's dovetail (providing the dovetail's approx 4" from the front edge of the front of the receiver).
The rear of the XS rail is secured to the top of the front receiver ring via two holes/screws, inline with the bore - which would need to be D/T'd unless the M94 is a later 94AE.

my winchester is a 1942...measures 3 5/8" from center of rear sight dovetail to the rear of reciever ring...it would be great if the XS mount would work but that 4" measurement criteria has me concerned...i emailed the factory(XS Sights) yesterday for some info...hoping they can help me out...i was on another forum(old thread) and they were talking about a Burris mount for m94 that goes in the sight dovetail and also is drilled/tapped to rear barrel band....

A few thoughts.

1) If the distance to your sight dovetail was over 4", it's kinda hard to stretch a mount - but since the distance is less, it's a piece of cake to anchor the front in the dovetail, cut off whatever hangs off past the rear of the front receiver ring, drill two new holes in the mount over the front receiver ring, and D/T the receiver for the rear.

2) I, for one, sure wouldn't be D/T'in any holes the the front receiver ring of ANY 1942 model.  The onlyest holes I'd punch in would be on the side for a peep.

3) YEARS ago, there once was a mount made, for LER handgun scopes, that fit in the rear sight dovetail and the forearm's barrel band - but finding one of those today ranks right up there with finding a hen's tooth.

4) If it was my rifle, and I just HAD to have a scope, I would investigate B-Square - who used to make a clamp-on type scope mount, for a handgun scope, that might be able to be adapted to the rear sight dovetail.

Redfield made a 2x scope and mount that replaced the rear sight of the 94.  Great little scope that might still be found.  Scopes are 3/4" just the right size for a 94.  I"ve been lucky enough to
find 4 of them.  Have all of them mounted on Contender barrels, just right for them also.
All 4 of these I found new in the boxes for $20 each in a pawn shop.  The Mounts for the 94 also had a rear sight on them so you could pop off the scope and use the iron sights.

On my last inventory, I found an old Redfield mount for a Winchester top ejection model 94. Is the same setup as yours, rearsight slide in filler and drill the barrel for other screws. Scout scope style.
