The New Outlaw Sling - Pictures Put Up
« on: June 21, 2008, 11:58:01 AM »
I was surfing some of the other forums, and I ran across a new rifle sling, it is called The Outlaw Sling made by Timber Butte Outdoors. This sling is sweet. You really need to see it, I think I am going to buy one.

It is a backpack sling. You carry your gun in the middle of your back. TBO website says that you can carry your gun completely hands free.

I don't know if I can post a link to TBO web site, maybe you can Google the name Timber Butte Outdoors or The Outlaw Sling, I don't know if that will work or not.

I am going to get mine now!

Welcome To Graybeard Outdoors!

Yours sure looks like a good find to me...specially considering the times that I have (hid out) or moved the decoy's, equipment, and downed yotes. The rifle with the standard sling is usually the most cumbersome when you need both hands free.

glanceblamm,

When I first saw this sling, I thought to myself that is one great idea. I wish I had thought of that. The Outlaw Sling is going to make my yote and cat hunting alot easier, since I walk alot when I am calling critters.

And when I am hunting deer.

I sent for mine. I can't wiat til it gets here.

I almost forgot - Thanks for putting up the web site address for Timber Butte Outdoors. I think everyone needs to see this sling. Come on people pony-up and pickup your Outlaw Sling.

Good Hunting

I just want you'all know that I don't work for or even know Gary Mathews. I just know that I really like his sling. So I just want other hunters to know about it. He is just starting out in business and I would like to see him do good with the sling.

I went and looked at some other Hunting Forums, and then to Gary's web page, well, he had put up new pictures, of a guy wereing the sling with a rifle, and the rifle with a pack on under the rifle.

As far as I can see, it does all that Gary talks about in the other forums. The guy has it in the middle of his back, with on the side of the pack, laying on its side, even has it on a set of shooting sticks.

You'all need to go and look at his web page, he made it so you can click on the thumbnail picture, it will get big so that you can see all the detail of the picture. I don't know how or I would put a picture here, I am not that smart about computers, I can click a link button, and do email, and post on the forums, is about it.

Thanks for reading this.

First I thought it was a joke, but I guess he is serious.  Aside from providing your hunting buddies some entertainment while you are trying to get the rifle off your back for a quick shot at that Bear or Hog that is going to eat you, I can't think of a single thing it would do for me.  Guess if I want to sell to hunters I need to start thinking stupid.  Larry

trotterig,

everyone has their own way of thinking, or opinion, and I guess that is your opinion. That is what makes life interesting.
I don't think everyone thinks like that without giving it a try first.

Thanks.

I carry long guns regularly hands free with a conventional sling, just loosen it enough to fit it over your head and across your body to the opposite shoulder, works great when mountain biking and easily adjusts for conventional use and it's nice and light for carry when not slung or it's in my fanny pack when I don't want it on the gun.  ;)

Guns and slings have been around for hundreds of years, it that sling was that hot it would have been built about 200 years ago.  Larry

I've found it easy to use for climbing and just as easy to swing it off your shoulder for a quick shot all u have to do is slip your trigger arm out of the strap an swing it around to the ready

Just amazing!  A guy snaps two slings on a rifle and calls it an invention, and then people buy it and say how good it is!  Have at it guys, A fool and his money are soon parted." -- P.T. Barnum. ".  Larry

Trotterlg,

You are right in that this type of sling has been around and is not a new invention.  It has been around for a long time as the method that ski troops and biathlon shooters use for their rifles.

You are 100% correct, I knew I had seen those before, here they are, better not tell them that it is about to be patented right out from under them!  Larry

A true biathlon sling carries the rifle with the left side of the rifle against the shooter's back to keep the bolt from sticking into the shooter's back.  The Outlaw and the other one would not be as comfortable since the trigger gusrd and the pistol grip cap will stick into the back.  This is also why rifles like the Finn 39 have side-mounted sling mounts for mounted troops to carry the rifles across their backs without getting poked in the back.

It appears that we have moved from a worthy product to a junk product that may have copywrite infringements (that probably dont exist and I dont have to worry about) back to this being a worthy product again as
Said by it's usage years ago by the biathlon and ski troops?

It is hardly rocket science but rather a simple product that one is certainly not obligated to buy. I did like it because I do on occasion find my hands too full and will hide out equipment when I can move the truck to a
Closer access area for the pickup. It is hardly worth getting into an uproar about a simple sling.

The revelent post here IMO are...

I've found it easy to use for climbing and just as easy to swing it off your shoulder for a quick shot all u have to do is slip your trigger arm out of the strap an swing it around to the ready
