Burris 2-7x pistol scope
« on: July 21, 2008, 11:25:08 AM »
I'm considering the Burris 2x-7x scope to mount on my Encore .308 pistol.  Would you guys pick the regular "Plex" or go with the "Balistic Plex" recticle?  There's not enough difference in price to be of any concern, but how useful is the "balistic plex" anyway?  Honest opinions, experiences?

Comes down to personal choice I suppose, and what your intended uses of the 308 will be.

FWIW, I have had a bunch of Burris 2-7 scopes, and all of mine have standard plex.   I consider this scope model a hunting scope for game (mostly medium/big), but have also used them for shooting IHMSA.   My scopes that have plex dots are all higher magnification and used for long range varmint/predator hunting.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I own two 2x7 Burris scopes and both have normal plex, and for big game hunting that is all I want.   I assume your .308 will be a big game handgun, so I'd steer away from the complicated reticle.  When hunting game, much of the time you won't even see the dots when aiming and firing.

I'll be using it for whitetail deer and occaisonal (informal) target shooting.  I'm beginning to lean towards the simple "Plex" recticle.  I think the "Balistic Plex" would be more useful on my 32 Mag barrel, since the .308 will shoot fairly flat out to 300 yards anyway.  Great advice, well taken!  Thanks!

I have used the BP reticles quite a bit over the years, especially for hunting.  They have worked great for me and have allowed me to have precise aiming points in the field.
If your max distance for your 308 is 300 yards, a standard plex should do you just fine.
