.35 Whelen?
« on: July 07, 2008, 01:46:38 PM »
Hi all'
I live in Mississippi and it seems they they are changing our "primitive weapons " law again and now any break open, single shot rifle with an exposed hammer is going to be considered a primitive weapon as long as it is .35 caliber or larger. Last year it was .38 cal. or larger and the Encore wasn't legal. Now it looks like the Encore will be legal. If this is indeed the case it looks like a .35 Whelen woud be the cats meow! I now have a .280 and .50 cal. ML barrel.
Do any of you shoot this caliber? Does this sound like a good idea? I haven't done a lot of checking , but I am unclear as to whether that is a standard barrel offered by TC or if I will have to go the custom route. (I want a standard contour 24" SS). My other likely option (it seems) is the .45-70 possibly a Katadin.
Thoughts?

The 35 Whelen is available from the Custom Shop or anyone that sells them, Midway lists the 24" barrel, but is out of stock.
