Choosing a scope for the HANDI...

  This week my Whelen arrived and I am pleased to announce she is a solid 99% gun.  After cleaning, can't find a mark on her...  Now, I am going to get rid of her Tasco scope and old school Weaver rings.  So, I am pondering a new scope for her.  Since we have to get rings high enough to clear the hammer, wouldn't the scope then be sitting high enough to put on a 50mm obj. scope?  Heck, with the 26" barrel she's no mountain rifle, so a few extra ounces of glass won't matter.  Your thoughts?

A 50mm objective scope can be mounted in medium rings with the right scope, see Rings in the FAQs.  ;)

No idea what model..  It is a 4-16x40 AO that will be a decent .22 scope.

Put cha a BIG'un on it nn make it look coooool.   Put a 3x12x56 w/30mm tube on it, lets you hunt ner bought all night to.  ;D


That's really a little overboard.  Here is a 2x7x33 that is more in line.

You really need to choose the scopes for a Handi from teh eyebell forward, find one that has the proper eye relief position with clearance for the Hammer and you have a good fitting scope.  Larry

What rings are you using with this scope? I'm thinking of buying that same scope for my .357 Handi.

I originally had a Sportsman's Edge 4x9x40mm on my 223 Handi. I bought a Barska 6.5x20x50mm for my flat-top AR and found that it didn't really fit. So, I swapped them out. It is a much better situation all around. Friday, I tested the Handi out. I was getting 3 round groupings with a cold barrel that had the bullet holes overlapping at 50 yards.

dracphelan:  The Barska's seem to be agood fit on the Hnadi's, that is what is on the one pictured above, but it is a 3-9X40.  Larry

What rings are you using with this scope? I'm thinking of buying that same scope for my .357 Handi.

They are Burris 1" Quick-Release Weaver-Style Rings.  You can take the scope off then put it back on and still be on zero.  I just took these off the gun.
