Recoil with Encores

Since not too many bit on my 7M-08 question, let me ask it this way.  Do Encore rifles tend to have more recoil than standard rifles in the same caliber??  If so, do most of you just live with it or do you have things that seem to work well to help get the recoil down.  I really like the rifle, but was surprised at the recoil.

the stock design is poor for recoil

especially when bench shooting. A past pad should be worn to protect the shouldr joint. I have a 300 win mag and the weakest 150 grain load is rough, so I'm adding a limbsaver recoil pad.

I just ordered a limbsaver recoil pad last nite.  Got it from Midway for 29.95.  Should be here tuesday.  It will be very interesting to see how much difference it really makes. :D

Actually, I picked up an Encore 209 x 50 a year ago in Appleton WI.  I just got the barrel a week or so ago from Larry Pifke (chainsaws and guns) in Iron River Mi.  Havent seen you on here lately MI VHNTR :D

longwinters, I usually check posts quickly here every other night or so. The reason that I had asked about the Encore, is that someone just bought a 7-08 SS Encore from Wilderness that was ported and had a recoil pad installed. It was a very sharp looking rifle. I predator hunt with a guy from your way usually once or twice a year. We've had some good times calling. Take care, MI VHNTR

Well, so far I have sanded out the forend for my 7M-08 so it is basically "piller bedded" and my recoil pad should be here tomorrow according to Midway.  Hopefully this weekend I be at the range. :D

I finally got to shoot the 7M-08 (24") with the Limbsaver recoil pad.  The packaging says it reduces felt recoil "up to 50%"  It is hard to compare the difference with this one and the factory one w/o shooting one and then switching and shooting the other back to back.  But I would say that felt recoil is about 1/3 less in my application.  I shot 12 rounds and felt very comfortable shoulder wise...more so than with the factory pad. Now I should add that last time I shot I used 140 gn bullets and this time I used 120 gn bullets.  But I do not think that the bullet made that big of a difference because it felt like the rifle was coming back just as much (recoil) but my shoulder was not feeling it nearly as much.  This may be clear as mud but I do not know how else to explain it.  I am sure that perceived recoil is affected by noise level and how much the rifle moves back at the shot.  So to say "just by how it felt" is difficult.  But I know it was quite a bit less than with the hard factory pad.  I would recommend the Limbsaver recoil pad.  :biggun: =  :gun4:

Longwinters, how is the fit of that pad on your Encore?  The one I got is too narrow in the mid-section of the butt and leaves considerable overhang of the stock.  Top and bottom are okay.  My stock is the standard factory synthetic.

Undercocked,  It is perfect.  After reading your post I ck'd it right away . . . thought I'd missed something.  But it was absolutely flush all the way around.  My stock is also factory.  Maybe Sims will send you a replacement.  Have you shot yours . . . what was your opinion? :D

No, haven't shot with mine on there yet so can't render an opinion.  I've emailed SIMS but heard absolutely nothing by way of reply.

Undercocked, hopefully they come thru for you.  Did you ck with just the company or did you ck with who you bought it from?  We have some friends coming up from your way.  They are from somewhere around Springfield Mo.  Went to college with them.  Anyway, good luck on getting things straightened out. After all $30.00 is $30.00. :!:
