When I was younger, I shot at a ringneck pheasant that was making a fast get-away. The bird fell, and I noticed something else falling at the same time. When I walked over to the pheasant, what I found was not only the pheasant, but laying near it was a woodcock. Inadvertantly I had shot two birds with one shot.
How many of our members have shot two birds with one shot? What are their stories?

A few years back a friend of mine shot 6 turkeys with one shot!! I know it sounds unbelievable, but I was there and saw the dead birds and heard ONLY one shot. It was during the fall season when he saw what appeared to be one turkey and took a shot at it. Once he shot he started seeing a whole bunch of birds flopping around behind the one he shot at. Apparently the birds were coming in single file in high grass where the others were not visible. We are allowed only 2 birds in the fall season, but the rest of us tagged the birds with our tags, so none were wasted. Not perfectly legal I guess, but better than leaving them to rot in the field. Craziest thing I ever did see while hunting!

I took out a Crow once with the .22 WMR and saw two go down.
Both were on the ground with the 2nd one being a good 8ft forward and 3ft to the side. It caught a tiny piece of the bullet jacket square in the head.

I hear that this type of thing is not too uncommon during the PD wars but is still startling to see more than one go down unless one is quail hunting or such.

wow, I only shot 2 turkeys....

Oh well, they tasted great. I was 11 and walked up on a flock and really just "shot amongst em"

One was dead, the other flopping. Shot em with an old Stevens SxS 20 ga w/ #3 buck.
By the way, i really dead centered a pine tree between me and the turkeys (there were 14 of the 20 buckshot pellets in the tree) I found that out the next week.

While hunting ducks in North Dakota I had four ducks fly right to left in front of me at about 25 yards. When I pulled the gun up to shoot my sling wrapped over the top of the barrel so I just pulled the trigger three times, all four ducks fell dead on the water.

most interesting thing ive seen on this subject is when i took my son hunting rabbits{he was 9} he shot a rabbit with his 20 ga rem, a couple of quail flew up when he shot. when we walked over to get the rabbit we found a dead quail that must of been sitting very close to the rabbit. very amazeing.

This last year I killed four turkeys dead with one shot from my 28 guage.

Killed 8 huns with 2 shots from my side by side 12 guage,I think I killed the whole covey.

2 birds / 1 shot = scotish double
Have lucked into a few in 40 years , did it on the skeet field and they didn't get as excited as I did !

Got two blue quail with one shot once. Got the one I intended to and another that was close to him. They were both flying. No skillet shots for me.

Shot 3 geese with 2 shots one time. Driving back home from a public hunting area one morning, and seen a friends pick up next to a barn, on some private land he had permission to hunt. He had told me, if I seen his truck there, come on out and join him. As soon as I parked and got behind the barn, loaded my 10ga. and started about a 200yd belly crawl through the cut corn field, to where I knew he was sitting in a fence row. When I got to about 75 yds of him, a flock of Canadian geese got up, that had been feeding on the other side of the field. The geese split the difference between us, and when they were overhead, I raised up to my knee's and cut loose with my Ithaca. To this day, I thought I heard him shoot. And 1 goose started to drop, I thought I missed with my first shot, fired again, didn't see one fold up, so shot my 3rd round. And 2 of them fell. I figured that I had hit one, and Joe had got one. Come to find out, Joe had his boss with him, a fellow by the name of Loyld. Both of them were laughing so much, watching me belly crawl over 150yds threw a muddy,snowy cut corn field, neither one of them got a shot off! He swears up and down, I got one with my first shot, missed with my second, and hit 2 with my last shot. To this day, almost thirty years later, whenever I talk to Joe, who's now in his '80's, he always asks me, crawl thru any corn fields lately? gypsyman

Happens a lot with duck hunters, myself included, "flock" shooting, which is not picking out a single bird in the attempt to "kill them all". Happens inadvertently too when the focus bird is in direct line with another at the moment of impact. I limited out in three shots, with four birds in hand, on the 2003 Early Teal season opening day . Danged if I can think how that fourth bird got hit, except for it being behind bird #1.

It is great how seemingly little things become "defining moments" like your corn field crawl. We never know how our actions may be perceived by others. I "found" a very cold 3 foot alligator while duck hunting. I grabbed it behind the neck and in front of its rear legs. At about 40 degrees F it was pretty darned cold for that 'lil lizard. My duck hunting partner was bent over the boat gunnel sorting deeks when I said (from close range) "Look what I found!" When John turned to face me and his headlamp hit the gator about 6 inches from his face, the gator started to hiss and opened its jaws. I thought John was headed for a heart attack that morning trying to get back into the boat. To this day, when I ask if he has seen any gators, his face lights up! We'll keep that humorous gig between us, as friends, for the rest of our lives.

Once while duck hunting out of a lay out boat I had 4 goldeneye's come up the middle of the spread of decoys ,fired the first shot and the first 3 fell and got the 4th with a second shot.
One of the " triple" required shoootig again but the other 3 fell dead on the water. Jedman

This January I shot five ducks with two shots right at legal shooting time. I shot my last one for a six bird limit with three shots about two minutes later.

Long drive for two minutes of hunting.

A friend of mine drew in on a controlled elk hunt at one of the places in Oklahoma that refuge elk. He took two days vacation, loaded up all his gear to hunt and camp for the two days, and arrived before legal hunting time for orientation. At dawn, the ranger took him over a ways to where some elk were grazing, pointed out one bull, and said, "Shoot that one." He did. Loaded up and headed home. Got there in time to go to work.

Another friend of mine made the trip to Colorado with some other guys. They arrived at the camp site, he got his rifle out, walked about a hundred yards, and shot a decent bull. Doesn't happen every trip, but, on that day, it did.

Hunts can be short.

When hunting Grouse in the fall, we drive back trails in the hills. Late in the evening grouse will gather along the trail to pick up gravel. It's common practice to line two heads up so one shot will get both birds. Sometimes you can luck out and get three birds with one shot. My wife loves doing this, she looks at it as a challenge to see how many she can get with one shot. Her record is four, she keeps trying for five.

I've never done it myself, but know a guy who shot two turkeys in the head with one shot from a 12ga. 3" #6's.

I got two quail with one shot three times in one year. Never got a double like that before that year or since. And got two pheasants with one shot twice. One of the times one pheasant was flying and the other was running on the ground, and they were going different directions. I will probably never see that again!

saw a rat just the head

went to see what kind of hits and pattern on the rat and leaves

found 2 dead rats

i think they were make more rats when shot

I once got my limit of six squirrels with 1 shot from my 12ga. They came down the log I was sitting on single file. I swear the first one was about a foot from the muzzle when I pulled the trigger. Had to throw the first 2 away they were so torn up.

You oughta go to pajamagram.com and send him a pair of new undies with a card that says, "Seen any gators lately?" Then invite him on a hunt.

That was really amazing I always wanted to shoot birds but I don't have the guts to hold a gun I'm too scared.
