Where's everyone heading?

Not looking for your honey hole just thought maybe a discussion on the general area might be interesting.

Myself, we're heading to unit 48 first season which is a new unit for us.  Scouting didn't go very good but still looking forward to it.  Opening day isn't too far off.

Just got back from the Umcompaghre where I filled my cow tag.  Saw three legal bulls and about 10 cows and calves.  I think the muzzle loader hunters were fewer than normal and the bulls were bugling more than usual.  I heard a similar report from the Grand Mesa.   The guys from my home town ran across an old fellow on the Grand Mesa who had expired while hunting.  No phone service, so they spent a day taking him off the mountain.  Since he was by himself, I'm guessing he was a Colo Res.  I can think of worse ways to go.  I told my buddies " if you're not in shape when you get to the Mtns, you will be when you leave".  I didn't consider what could happen if you had a medical condition.

Dang...that would certainly be an experience.  I have a good buddy who lost his dad in elk camp.  They were packed in with horses about 8 miles.  They got their wall tents sent up and his dad said he was tired so he went in and layed down while the others cooked supper.  When they went it to get him for supper, he had passed away.  They brought him out on horses.

Congratulations on your cow. In northern CO it seems the bulls have just turned on in the last couple of weeks.  Kinda late this year.
