Calling all blacksmiths!
« on: October 20, 2009, 05:50:35 PM »
I received this knife as a gift a few years back, made out of 4 rail road spikes, twisted. Still razor sharp, and hasn't rusted at all. Just curious for the input of the blacksmiths (Ironglow) out there ... what style is this? how was made? can you tell me anything about it?

Thanks, Chaps

TeamNelson

Doesn't look like nearly enough steel to be four spikes. Maybe one spike and four nails welded to it and twisted, but I know very little about it. (The link I had to the Miss Forge Council was no help.)

Good Luck, eddiegjr

I agree, looks like enough metal for one spike.  There is no blending of the metals marks like you see in Damascus knives, that you would have if four spikes had been hammered together.  The top is welded on and looks to be either nails of rods.  Can't say really what the top is without closer inspection.

Have seen lots of examples like that.  People aspiring to do anvil work hammer out things like that.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
