Nice pics Jack - love these digitals.   Depending on which side of the country you are in, the Swallowtail is either a Papilio rutulus or P. glaucus most likely, and the "Clearwing" is a Hemaris diffinis, H. senta or H. thysbe.   Yep, been a Lepidopterist just shy of 40 years, so thought you might like the determinations (give me a state and I'll nail it if you like).   Have 35K specimens in my sinoptic collection from all over the world BTW.   I never thought of posting my lep pictures on the board - might have to drop a few on once in a while.   Ladobe
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Thanks. I was thinking as I was shooting them, 'I couldn't do this with a regular camera'. I fired off 55 shots and tried a wide variety of settings.

Hey, my Latin is restricted to Bugs Bunny cartoons ( Speedis Birdis ), and snipets I remember from criminal law ( stare decisis ).

It says "Graybeard Outdoors" not "Graybeard Huntin' and fishin'". I like wildlife and not just that I can fry up. I assume others on the board feel the same way. Besides, I don't see why there isn't more activity on this forum, just about everyone has a camera.

Well, I started "shooting" the butterflies with a box my Dad brought back from WWII, then a Brownie box camera, then Instamatics, my first 35mm, and finally SLR's (still pack my Minolta 7000i and its truckload of goodies on many outings).   I have thousands of slides of leps (egg to adult) from the countless rearing projects I have done with them over the years.   Since I didn't get my first digital until about 6-7 years ago, most were taken with regular cameras - but I quickly learned from experience what settings, etc. to use, so was able to stop taking all those "just in case" shots of the early years.

OK, then lets change that to:  Western Tiger Swallowtail or Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (well, duh!)... and... Snowberry Clearwing, Rocky Mountain Clearwing or Hummingbird Clearwing.

I agree that anything "outdoors" with a camera is appropriate for this forum, as well as discussion on equipment.   Just haven't been posting many pictures myself as I didn't know what those using this forum would be interested in.   Have over 50 years worth of pictures... maybe I can find something that will fit here.

Ladobe... I would sure like to see some of your photographs posted here.  I've been doing some photography for more than 50 years.  Wildflowers and mushrooms are my favorite subjects.

"Guest"

Well, as time allows I guess I could toss some on here.   Your work would also be welcome if you want to share them - this forum needs some new blood.

Would also appreciate it if you would register on the board - have an identity like the rest of us - where you hail from, etc.

Thanks,

Ladobe
