Looking for a SxS "coach" gun with a ribbed barrel
« on: July 28, 2008, 05:56:59 AM »
I'm looking to buy a side by side with 20" barrels for some thick cover rabbit hunting.

I'd perfer to sight down a rib as that's what I'm used to (although at close range it's more instinctive shooting anyway).

Does Stoeger, CZ, or anyone else make a ribbed short barrel shotgun???

Quite honestly if you're looking at the rib you're not shooting the gun properly. Still like you I kinda prefer a rib on my guns but when actually shooting it I am hardly aware it's there and if it fell off while I was out shooting I'd likely not know it until I got ready to clean it.

Wing shooting and the same applies to rabbit hunting with shotgun is best done by concentrating on the target NOT the gun barrel. You should be only marginally aware of the barrel at all with your full concentration on the game. If you do that you'll hit a lot more often and miss a lot less. You will also then not care really if it has a rib or not.

I've owned several of the Stoeger and CZ Huglu SxS guns and to be honest with you I do not even know if they had a rib or not. Strange perhaps but that's how important the rib is to me and remember I did say I actually prefer my shotguns to have a rib cuz I like the way they look but it sure is of no concern when I'm shooting them.

Still I "think" the Stoeger guns do have ribs and I'm "almost certain" the CZ guns do.

I agree, it's a much more instinctive shooting than it is aiming.

Still though, I much prefer the sighting system of say a vent rib 870 over my single barrel shotgun (which is basically a blurr). All things being equal, I'd rather have my prefered system despite not really "aiming".

Me too but in real world use I'd really never know the difference. Once when the front sight fell off my shotgun I had no clue it had fallen off until much later after many rounds were fired without it.
