Where are all the G2 barrels ??
« on: August 13, 2008, 02:35:08 PM »
Getting back into the contender pistols after 20 years maybe ? I bought a stock TC 14" pistol barrel in .223 bull barrel and no sights and drilled and tapped for scope. It was a factory standard barrel back then.
I do not see any 12-14" stock pistol barrels sold by TC that do not have adj. sights, only the Encore ? If I want a G2 pistol barrel without sights do I have to go custom now ?
I have been to Cabelas Mid-South and all G2 barrels seem to have sights.

TC Contender factory barrels have always had open front and rear sights.   Removeable front and rear on all barrel configurations except the fronts were not removeable on octagon barrels.   Never saw a factory Super 14 only drilled and tapped for scope mounting (no front sights), so my guess is your 223 was a Fox Ridge barrel from TC's so called custom shop.    It's a simple matter to remove the sights and use filler screws in factory barrel front sight holes.    Or buy semi-custom from TC or custom barrels from after market shops with no front sight holes.

There were some round barrels made with a flat milled for the front sight, and the sight permanantly attached (my guess would be silver soldered or brazed but I don't really know).  I have a couple of them.  No clue when they were made.  Ladobe is right that all made now are removable sights.  Unscrew the sight screws and replace with filler screws.  Nearly all my barrels are like that.

TC does manufacture some Contender/G2 barrels that are not drilled for open sights. I picked up a .223AI barrel off Midway a while back that is drilled only for a scope base.

Your 223AI is not a factory production barrel, it is a TC custom shop barrel.   Any barrels from TC's custom shop can be ordered with or without front sights.    Appears Midway did just that and put them in stock.
