How to fit an Ithaca 37 barrel

I have a late number Ithaca 37 16ga deerslayer. I bought a late number vent rib barrel and it will no go on my reciever. I tried it on another receiver and it only went on with great difficulty. I suspect there is some small damage to the interrupted threads. Has anyone dealt with something like this? Shotgunner
