94 Ranger
« on: August 02, 2008, 09:29:24 AM »
Have tryed to get a 7-30 Waters barrel put on my Winchester 94 Ranger, but just got called yesterday that the smith can't get the old barrel off with out cutting the barrel.  Told them to forget it, the 30-30 just is to accurate to cut off.  Has anyone else run into this problem with the Ranger 94?  I know there is a gunsmith here that won't do work on the Ranger.  Guess I'm going to look for another 94 to get this factory 7-30 put on.  Have had the barrel for several years.  This is the second 7-30 that hasn't worked out for me, guess I'm not supposed to have one! :'(  DP

You might want to scout out a levergun 'smith - one who has the proper tools to R&R a barrel w/o resorting to a bubba shortcut.

Maybe give reborer Jess Ocumpaugh a call @ (541) 942 - 1342

The only differences between your Ranger and Standard Carbines & other rifles is the cosmetics and stock material.
They are the same guns, and AFAIK are usually NP to switch barrels on.

Thanks, I talked to another 'smith last night night that said the same thing.  Not sure who the guy is that can't get it off.  One of the gun shops I deal with here said he uses the same guy all the time.  Told me the name, can't remember.  DP
