Remington Improved Model 6 Need major help
« on: August 02, 2008, 09:35:29 AM »
I took the falling block part off by removing the pin to clean it. In between the hammer and the block is a spring that is what makes the hammer fall when the trigger is pulled and I couldn't get it back in and then while trying the hammer fell in front of the sear of the trigger and the hammer won't go back into place. The only way I could get it to go back is if I removed the other two pins and they won't come even after soaked in break free. I am wondering if I am doing this right and if I could get some advice on how to removed the other two pins and if I can get a schematic of all of the parts in the frame which looks to be about 5 parts. Any help will greatly be appreciated.

Also there is a little damage where the original owner took it apart around the pins and I am thinking about restoring it. I am wondering if a little fin grit sand paper or something like that can polish it out?

IMO, the way I would go would be to pull both the barrel and the breechblock, and remove the mainspring  & it's strut, to reset the hammer into the half-cock notch.

Be sure to remove the axles toward the right side of the rifle as the sights are viewed for firing.

Then, the breechblock can be re-installed, first easting the forward tip of the mainspring strut in it's seating slot in the bottom rear face of the breechblock simultainousl with seating the plunger/cone-shaped end into it's seat in the lower hammer face.

Re-install the barrel last.
