History paraphrased: My first daughter was born in May of 1984. Eastern Maine saw its first 1894 Marlin chambered in 41Mag, to the best of my knowledge. It was straight-gripped and uncheckered. I did not buy it - didn't have $ at the time. I did find a NIB in 1990, just after my last son was born. Based on the serial number, it was from that first run. I moved to North Idaho four years ago, and a year or two before that, Marlin made their 2nd run, but with a pistol-grip checkered stock. Still a very pretty rifle. And they are deadly within their capabilities. Dropped several Wyoming antelope while 'breaking it in' for my son. lol!
I still find a NIB from that first run, but they are becoming scarce as times goes on. On Gunbroker, they seem to go in cycles, and mostly from the 2nd run. I also have the Accusport Ruger Bisley 41Mag, and they make a great team. At least for me. When my son graduates from college, he gets both of them...guess I'll have to find a replacement. Hard to give up on the 41Mag after 28years of ringing it out.
