Who makes these barrels? Has anyone had any experience with them?

I have a drop in replacement barrel for 10-22 from them that works fine.  I don't know who makes them.

Also have one on a 10-22 that I'm very pleased with and one on a savage 110 that shoots so-so but probably not the barrels fault as it was only so-so with the original barrel .

They are a fair barrel but require lapping,  I have built several rifles with them, they are worth the money they ask,

I have on on my Savage in 220 swift that I fire lapped that shoots .75 groups and on I put on my sons small action mauser that shoots under an inch in 6.5 swede. I'm happy with both of them.

I know an accomplished part time gunsmith who uses them exclusively.  I've seen his targets and they're impressive.  I'm Pondering a Mauser sporter in 6.5 Swede Ackly improved.

I don't know about their rifle barrels but I have one of their 20-gauge slug barrels in a Thompson Center TCR and it seems as smooth as glass. It is much smoother than the other 20-gauge slug barrel I have  which was made by ER Shaw. However, it shoots no better than the ER Shaw barrel.

What I have heard from you guys and from what I have read from the internet, it seems to be overwhelming positive, a few nay sayers but for the most part good. I guess worth the 79.00 Midway wants for a .270 barrel.

I read somewhere that they thought Green Mountain made them and sold them to Midway in bulk, Midway then puts there own name on them and can sell them cheaper because of there bulk purchase.

Thanks for the replies.

My other 10/22 has a green mountain barrel and the two are nothing alike.  But that doesn't mean a thing: they were bought years apart, and to different specs.  The both shoot alike:  great.

Have read somewhere , most likely on Savage shooters the barrels are made by Battenfield , owned by Midway. I have also heard about every rumour possible including they buy other manufacturers culls and sell them. I have one in 221 fireball , haven't got to shoot it much , but it shows a lot of promise.

Have a friend I changed his barrel the first time on his Sav. and it is in 22-250 . Shoots very well. I would buy another one of them. Probably will get one of the short chamber in 6.5 x 55 for the mouse gun some day.

I have used a few and find they are plenty good enough for "average" shooting and hunting. I would NOT attempt to use one for competition. One problem is they only make about three different size [contour] barrels and the only difference appears to be the hole in the middle so some of the smaller calibers tebd to be a mite heavy. This being said? Good barrel for ther buck! Little lapping or just shooting in and you`re good to go.

My .257 Roberts built on a Turk Mauser actions has one of these barrels.  Shoots 0.75" to 1.0" pretty consistently.  I"m certainly happy with it.

Best guess is that they are simply over runs that are sold under that name.  They may be made by any number of makes, they meet the specs and Midway sells them.  You may get a good one and you may not, if you want a known good barrel then go to the source, but these are new, so are likely better than you're shot out one, bench rest shooters don't shop by price, so this will not affect them.  Generally you will get what you pay for.   Larry

Are Adam and Bennett better then Shilen or Hart or Doglas the Answer is NO. Are they Bad  barrels the answer is NO. What I have found is they will usually out shoot factory barrels. I have used many of these barrels and have had really good results. I know I will get a lot flak over this but the factory barrels we are getting these days are pretty poor. Some factory barrels shoot very well but it is a hit or miss deal. And when certain fire arms manufactures tell you a 5 inch group at 100 yds is accepable you can understand why there factory barrels are as poor as they are. For the $69.00 or so dollars they cost it is hard to beat.

I have a SS fluted 223 barrel, since discontinued. When I got it, it was rough in the bore. It would copper foul in five shots or less, then the groups would open up. I could get a .5 group with five shots and from there every thing went South. I polished the heck out of it. I started out giving it 200 strokes with Mother's Polish. I then shot it 20 times. Copper fouled again. Cleaned it and gave it another 150 strokes. Shot it 20 times. I kept this regiment up for 7 - 8 times at least, giving it 150+ strokes of metal polish each time. Some times I used JB Bore Bright. I did this until It would not copper foul any more after 20 shots. I can now shoot it with out copper fouling and get groups in the .3 - .4 range on a very regular basis. Some times it will shoot under .3". I am very happy with this barrel, but it took some elbow grease and lots of patience to get it this way. I also have a 221 barrel. I polished it to start with, before ever firing a shot. While the 223 barrel likes to be clean to shoot it's best, the 221 barrel likes to be dirty. I paid $99 with a barrel wrench for the 223 barrel and $129 for the 221 barrel. Both were Savage barrels pre-chambered and threaded. Neither one of them would hold up in a bench rest competition, but they do shoot more than good enough for informal target shooting and varmints. I am very satisfied with them, and would buy another for an every day rifle.
