.308 Survivor range report

Thanks to everyone for all of the posts about the .308 Survivor rifle that I was able to retrieve from the archives. Because of them, I was able to get some great load data, purchase a recoil pad that really works, figure out how to maximize its accuracy potential (5-shot group under an inch @ 100 yds) and realize that it will only get better when I get a trigger job done next week (from a gunsmith that was suggested to me be a member on this forum). This forum is a wealth of information and my new rifle is tons of fun to shoot!

nm shooter ,      I'm glad to hear you like your rifle, I have one also. I am with the army in iraq so my rifle is at home new in the box and unfired.  I  wanted to ask about the recoil pad you put on yours .   I'm sure I will need one.    Any info on that would be a help.

About that recoil pad.I bought a small/med Limbsaver slip on for my 308 survivor works well .

Cool glad to hear you are doing well with yours. I really like mine and it is easy to carry around to. I didnt put a pad on mine I just went and got a shoulder pad that way I dont have to pull off a but pad when I want to get into the storage in the stock.

I bought a Limbsaver pad (large) at the suggestion of someone on the forum. If I had to do it all over again, I would try a medium b/c the large is a bit too large. It really helped tame the recoil of the hard plastic stock. I had a rotator cuff repair done in January 2008, and the recoil w/o it was painful!

I feel your pain! Just bought my Ultra Hunter .308, a Burris scope, & 50 rounds of FMJ to break in the barrel and before I could get to the range I had to go in for torn rotator cuff(2) surgery in June. Now, all I can do is sit here & look at it. I can't even pick it up yet. Doc. said I should just use my .243 when hunting season arrives but I'm thinking I could try those reduced recoil loads in .308. Maybe a Limb Saver, too.
