I walked out to the garden last night just before sunset to plan out my weekend for tilling, liming, fertilizing and getting the Garlic in before long, and on my way back to the house I picked up a piece of plastic that was laying in the yard. Lo and behold, underneath was a Ribbon Snake (Garter Snake) about 14" long.
I carefully snagged him behind the head with my right hand and decided it was time to have some fun when I go back in the house.
It's not that bringing home various critters never happened in the many years we've been married, like snakes and box turtles, but I seem to do it at some of the most inopertune times.... Like last night, when you know who was sitting and reading the paper.
All I will say is that the words that were used when that snake made an appearance over top of the paper would pierce the most virgin ears.
For some reason the Snake was evicted...I wasn't allowed to keep it.
Thankfully there are few poisonous snakes in this state, with the Copperhead and Timber Rattler the only Vipers to worry about. Few, if any, of those around here.
P.S. I actually have a place outside that I know is snake friendly. I can almost guarantee there will be more than one hybernating out there, and waiting to make another appearance next year some time.
I can't wait.
