Crosman Premier Pellets
« on: December 29, 2007, 06:36:31 AM »
I was wondering If anyone is familiar with these pellets. I recently purchased some these pellets in .20 cal . They have a "Lot" number #4 stamped on the bottom of the cardboard box. I remember reading something a while back that said the Crosman Premiers with a Lot number #2 were the best ones you could get. Anyone ever hear of something like this. I have some older Crosman Premiers in both .177 cal as well as .22 cal that "Don't" have a lot number stamped on the bottom of the box but a date from 1993. Anyone have any ideas as to where that puts these etc. Thanks.

I've got #2s and #3s in .20 cal for my R9.  Those numbers are the die that the pellets were made in. The actual lot number should be stamped on the container box that 4 of the individual boxes come it.  I've run accuracy tests at 30 yards with my R9 and can't find a bit of difference between the #2s or #3s.  Weight variation seems pretty much the same also.  I hear that this Die number or that one is the "best" with .117s, .20s and .22s but I've not found any appreciable difference.  I prefer the Crosman CPs in all of my air rifles so hen they are available I get them.

I was told by someone that since there is no Die # on the bottom of the box but a date from 1993 they maybe part of the first Crosman premiers. Supposedly Die #1. I sure don't know if this could be true. But I to pretty much exclusively use them in all the airguns I shoot. They just overall seem to be the most consistent accuracy wise.

I'm sorry, but sometimes, I find it interesting to dredge up older posts, like this one.

I just ambled downstairs and brought up my two boxes of Crosman Premiers, one .177 and one .22.

The .177 has on the bottom of the box, "DIE #4" and "SEP 00 2002" on it.

The .22 has on the bottom of the box, "DIE #2" and "AUG 22 2002" on it.

Given that they have been an industry standard for quite some time, this post is quite interesting if one does have a "Die #" or a "date" but not the other one it, I think..

The die numbers you are referring to use to mean something, but they have little meaning since Bob Holtz retired from Crosman, and that was quite a while back.  It was Bob and his team who designed the Premier.   While they are still fine pellets they don’t clean them they way they once did, because of the pollution problems caused by same.   If you use them you should clean them first, I use an ultra sonic cleaner filled with paint thinner to clean mine.   The Premiers come with a lot of lead dust, and if you don’t your barrel can lead up quickly.

I know of several shooters who got Die # such, and the box have both round nosed pellets and flat nosed pellets in the box.   The count was about 60/40, so these die numbers mean nothing, except that is how many that they have worn out……

The old die #2 was a good run, and a lot of field target shooters swear by them.  Rightly so, as one does not have to sort those like they do the newer die numbers.
