Talks with H&R and Bud's Gun Shop - 357 Mag
« on: August 07, 2008, 07:53:48 AM »
Hi,

I've been looking for a handi in 357 Mag.  I've posted on this forum a WTB but no replies.  So I kept on looking........

I spoke with H&R Customer service today and asked about my wanting a 357 handi.  He said I could get an extra 357 barrel for my SB2 frame.  He said that they are increasing production of the 357 barrel because some states have allowed a hammer gun over 35 cal for primitive hunting.  I also asked him about the "new" offerings posted on their web site - SB1 frames and 44 mag, 357 mag and .444.  They're doing this for people that don't want to have extra barrels, just one gun and one caliber.  I told him that I couldn't find any SB2 357 or SB1 357 guns and he said that H&R has shipped them out.

I then called Bud's gun shop and asked them.  They have the SB2 357 posted on their site but not available.  He said they haven't seen any 357 mags in a while.  I asked him about the SB1 357 mag handi's and he said if they get them, they will post them on their web site.

So, if anyone knows of another handi rifle supplier/wholesaler please let me know.  I don't have a preference.  SB1 or SB2 frame 357.

Thanks,

Tony Garza

Here you go. This is a combo 357Mag. and a 20 gage shotgun from R&R Firearms. According to their site they have 4 in stock. Dale

Here is a link to H&R'S site for more info. on it. The only down fall to this is it can not be fitted to any other center fire rifle barrels except the 44 Mag. barrel.

Thanks a bunch for the response.  I contacted R&R Arms and they have 47 of the new SB1s in 357 mag.  Blue/syn stock but I paint stocks anyway.  It'll probably come out as Army green.  I'm in the process of ordering one of them.  The price was very reasonable - $205 plus shipping.

Thanks again,

My sporting goods dealer got in 3 of the 357 magnums for us last week and we are going to have them rechambered to the 357 maximum. Im not sure of the spelling but the owner said the guns came from lipseys and that they had lots more left in stock. You might want to get your sporting goods dealer to check with them and see what they can do for you.

If those guys are showing them in stock and you got a Walmart around that still sells guns you should be able to get them for about 25% less at Wally World. Kurt

If they're SB1 357s, I'd think twice about rechambering to Max, it has a 5kpsi higher SAAMI MAP than the Mag, I wouldn't recommend it.

I have a 20 ga. barrel that's rifled.  I'll check it when I get home.  Not sure what you mean by "style" though.  DP

Style = type = Ultragon or the traditional rifling.  ;)

Thanks guy's,
I've ordered a 357mag and 20gauge combo and was curious about the rifleing.
Should have it in another month or so, this model is'nt usually carried by our importer, so its a long wait.
                                Regards Jon.
