Advice for first time firing new (to me) 44 mag encore
« on: December 13, 2009, 02:20:24 PM »
Howdy-

I got bit by the Encore bug a few weeks back. Bought my first rifle (blued 30-06, synthetic stock), and now have a pistol on the way (blued 12" 44mag, synthetic grip/forearm, with TCA 2-7x scope).

Any advice as to what I should start out with at the range?  I don't reload, so that isn't currently an option.  My intended use is deer hunting at ranges of 100 yards or less.

I have a monopod that I plan to use in the field to shoot.  My best hunting buddy hunts with his Encore in 375 Winchester, and that is the method he uses.  He is very successful with his Encore, and I wanted to give it a go myself.

Thanks!
John

Since you don't intend to reload, I would advise buying several boxes of ammo of different brands with bullet weights in the 180 to 240 grain range and see which load it likes the best.  Bullets of those weights in hollow point or soft nosed construction will do fine on deer.
