94 Wood Finish ?
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:16:35 AM »
I picked up a mid 70s model 94. a previous owner put a sloppy coat of polyurethane over the original finish. I'm stripping it now and would like to apply the original type of finish.

Can anyone tell me if winchester used varnish, oil or a low gloss poly at that time?

Thanks

Ken

THis is WAAAAAY late, but I refinished a Model 92 walnut stock with 5 hand rubbed coats of true oil. Results? It looked EXACTLY like my 1958 Model 94 finish when it was new.
