450 Mongo 45/410
« on: January 17, 2004, 09:32:56 AM »
Has anyone here played around with this?  It is basically a 444 Marlin blown out to a straightwall XXX Long 45 Colt for Contender and/or NEF 45/410 chambers.(not 410 full choke shot barrels)  I have played around with it, and worked out a few kinks, & tried and discarded some of the 'myths' about fireforming.  It really works.  I havent used anything but mild loads so far, the weather has been pretty bad here.
I would love to hear from anyone that has any ideas for it.  Robert

A number of years ago I tried using 444 Marlin brass for 410 loads in my 45/410 Contender.  The brass swelled considerably on the first firing.  A regular Rem. plasic wad fit very loosely.  I had access to a metal lathe at the time and made a punch to cut a cardboard wad to fit snugly in the expanded brass over the powder and under the plasic wad.  Sealed it with another cardboard wad and a bit of hot wax.  Shot well with #9 shot and was truly awesone with #12 at 20 feet.
