Alaska has more coast line than the rest of the states combined. But our borders are not the ones being crossed by illegals trying to sneak into the US. If I was a terrorist, and I wanted to disrupt the US, why go to Alaska? We only have one large city Anchorage, then Fairbanks which is a small city. The rest is rural areas, with small towns and villages. Oh they might bomb the Pipeline, but that would not be much of a disruption. It would be back up and running in three to five days. The pipeline is so over engineered due to earthquakes that it would take one heck of a big bomb to damage it. It's been bombed once I know for sure, all it did was blow off some insulation material. I'm thinking there was a second attempt that only damaged insulation also. Then a drunk Indian shot it five times, point blank (five feet) with a .338 Win Mag. the fifth round finally penetrated the pipe. So Alaska is pretty much out of the picture, they would not want to be here during the winter anyway.
So that brings us to the lower 48, how do we secure the borders down there. Both the Canadian and Mexican borders are wide open.
With Canada I think it could be easy to get with the Canadian officials and get them to adopt the same rules and regulations for entry into Canada as we have for the US. The only way into Canada is by Air, Boat, or through the US. So if Canada was to secure it's Airports and Harbors, there would be no reason to secure the Canadian border.
Mexico: There lies our problem. Mexico does not have a secure border with it's southern neighbors. It also accepts people from any country as long as they are spending money. Their airports and harbors are wide open, as well as their coast lines. The only reason they stop someone entering the country illegally would be if heavy fines garnered them some extra money. No one wants to disrupt the Mexican economy or way of life. So how do we secure this border? In big cities they have fences along the border, but Mexicans have no reason to sneak across the river, they just go to the border crossing and say they are going to Wal-Mart, and away they go. Much of the border runs through remote isolated stretches of dessert. This is where most illegal crossings occur. They walk or drive across the dessert and make arraignments to be picked up on the highway by a vehicle to be transported to a big city where they can disappear into the crowd. So securing this border is a problem, how do we solve it?
Let's look at somethings that work. Look at the Mexican state of Sonora. Arizona has started enforcing the laws about hiring illegals. Once they can not get jobs, the men and women return home to Mexico. The Sonoran governor is screaming we are ruining their economy by not letting their people work in Arizona. The returning workers are a burden on their economy. They have no jobs in Mexico and means of support. Now if only all the states would do that. This helps the Illegal immigration problem, but does nothing to secure our southern border. What would work?
