Is it a disease?
« on: March 24, 2008, 04:31:02 PM »
Just picked up my Pro Hunter not even two weeks ago. I have allready ordered a .223 barrel for it, and I found a 24" 12 gauge turkey barrel on the local classifieds that I spent all weekend thinking that I could not live without it. I have 2 shotguns, a 870 and Mossy 835, plenty enough for turkey, but this encore barrel has got me going. I have not bought it yet, but its not sold yet either ::) My wife would be real happy if I told her that I spent 600 on barrels in the last week!

Yup!

You got the fever!

I bought an Encore pistol frame, within 2 weeks I had 3 barrels for it (223, 308, 454)...

The next week I had a G2 pistol frame....

the barrels are coming in.... and stocks, grips, and fore ends....

Scopes and scope bases.... on and on!!!!

You're becoming a TC Zombie!!!!

Yes it is a disease with me it all started wanting a muzzle loader for CHRISTmas. Went to get an Omega but the Pro Hunter just felt better so I brought it home. Explained to wife why $750.00 instead of $350.00 she was not impressed. 3 months later 300 mag, 270 win., 22-250 barrels plus 3 Leupold VX II 3X9 scopes later. She quit talking to me but as I sell my old bolt action guns in each caliber listed recouping most of the money spent she is talking to me.  ;D The only therapy is to buy more cause the more I shoot it the more I love my Pro Hunter. Haven't shot my guns for years just been a bow hunter wanted a muzzle loader for a 2 bear hunt in Canada now I shoot both! ;)

Yep bad disease for which no good woman can cure.

Started with a contender pistol, then encore pistol, then another frame, muzzle loader rifle barrel, 243 barrel.

308 pistol and 257 roberts pistol,

It sure is.  If you can get the turkey barrel for a good price I'd go for it.  I used to have an 870 supermag, but got rid of it after watching my buddy cleanly take a turkey at 58 yds. with his Encore.  He's taken three at 50+ yds, all have been clean kills.  We've both had good success with the Primos Tightwad choke tubes.  Beware, the Encore turkey barrel kills on BOTH ends.

Well I went and did it, told the guy I would pick it up on Thurs. I'm going to see how a black flex tech stock, stainless frame is going to look with a camo barrel and forearm. Johny Reb, they kick even with the Flex Tex stock real bad? Man one day I'm going to be in trouble!

The best way to tell if you have it or not is to go to a big gun show( we have one at least every 3 to 4 weeks during the year) and if you can come home with nothing contender encore or G2 then you don't have it. I bought one a year ago and then tried to buy up all the barrels ,stocks and for ends that I found within reason and budget of course. That called for larger gun safe as well as 2 pistol carrying cases not to mention scopes and mounts. Hard to go to a gun show and see one all alone with all those colts s&w they seem to say please take me home with you, how can I resist. Do I have it THAT WOULD BE A YES. :)

I don't think it kicks as bad with the flex tech stock, but I do think it jumps a touch more than it did before.  I had been shooting it on a regular Encore frame, I'd say it kicked about like a 3.5" mag.  I'm shooting the 3" Winchester Supreme turkey loads.  I just got my Pro Hunter frame last week and I"ve only shot the turkey barrel twice.  I got to test it out on two turkeys this weekend on a hunting trip to Georgia.  Two shots, two dead birds.  One was at 45 yds (ranged with a rangefinder) the other at 35 yds.  Off course, it could have kicked like a mule and I wouldn't have known, I was concentrating on the birds not the recoil.  I strongly recommend the Primos Tight Wad choke tube.  I had the Jelly Head ($41.99) and wasn't impressed.  This year I'm shooting the Tight Wad, and there is a night and day difference.  Good luck.

Plumbob,

I forgot to tell you that I have the black flex tech stock, stainless frame, camo barrel and forearm.  Looks good to me, especially when you're standing over a dead longbeard.

If you need help in curing this disease, I can help by buying any or all  of your barrels... I know it's a hard job, demanding at times, but I am willing to help a fellow man in his hour of need.  :D

I am really in bad shape.  I have had Contenderitis for years.  I also have Shotgun Fever and have recently become a Glockaholic!!!

There is no cure.

There is no cure.....This past spring Turkey season I took my bird with a T\C Prohunter frame, and an Encore vent rib 12 guage barrel. The flex tech stock is great at reducing felt recoil as I shot probably 5 Hevi Shot shells when i patterened my Carlson turkey choke in from 20 yards out to 50 yards. (Hey.....you just gotta see how those BB's are gonna pattern!  ;D)

The barrel lifts up, but my shoulder didn't take a beating. Love the flex-tech! Oh...for the barrel I just took some camo duct tape and covered the barrel and frame. Once the season was over I peeled it off and Butches bore shine took of any residual glue in a few minutes.

The gun is really nice to carry...light weight, easy to handle in the woods. And for Turkey.....if your not gonna get 'em with the first shot....it's a good chance your not gonna have a second shot worth taking.

B44mag,

If you like handpistols, and if you don't already have one, consider buying a 7-30 Waters in a 14" barrel. It's an exceptionally accurate cartridge with low recoil. I bought one two years ago and it's just an amazing shooter with less recoil than my 44 mags.
