if you get the shop to send in their ffl to aim you just call aim and order it to the ffl and all you owe him is the transfer fee. works the same with all the major dealers.Or spend 30 bucks and get a C&R and order it to your door.Around here thats only one transfer fee.

this guy does all the ordering himself and a background check and all that to make sure that it is safe to let you get a gun. very thorough i know it is more hassle but for just 25 dollar transfer fee it isnt bad.

I've ordered once from AIM and payed the $10 hand select fee for a Hex and round Tula. The Hex was beautiful but the round had a very bad bore.  It was full of pitting and I was very disappointed with AIM.  I've found that the ones I got from Century and Classic were a little better.  Many have had good luck with Aim, so you might be OK.  Don't expect the accuracy of a Remington 700 from these Mosins.  I've got five and the best I can do is 4-6 inches @100yards.  The internet is full of MOA Mosins but I will never believe any of that unless I see it with my own eyes.  The 203 Barnual shoots the best out of mine and it's cheap.  The Wolf Gold shot the worst out of anything I've tried.

I'd love to get any of my Mosins shooting good enough to hunt with as two of them wear scopes.  They look so cool with traditional scopes mounted on them with the ATI system.  I've tried everything from recrowning, bedding, and nothing seems to work.

Your dealer was probably trying to turn a profit by trying to decide how much to charge you for the transfer fee.  Do yourself a favor and get a C&R license if your interested in military surplus.  I found out the hard way on these Mosins.  They're just never going to be as accurate as most hunting rifles off the shelf.  Yeah, they look cool but if you're just looking for a cheap hunting rifle, you'd be better off with a Mossberg ATR/Handi/Stevens.  You just never know what you are going to get.  Often they'll send you one that looks good on the outside but with a sewer pipe of a bore.  I've seen many with shot out, pitted barrels.   You pay $90 for the rifle, $40 for a scope mount, then another $60 for the bolt mod; you are very close to what a Mossberg ect cost new.  Then all you do is mount a scope.

The SKS is not hard to scope but does have challenges.  The Choate mount that mounts on the side of the receiver is the best.   You have to drill and tap it though.  The receiver cover mounts will always lose zero.  I've bought more than my share of them and none of them worked right.  You will also be limited to the short cheapo scopes.  There are not many decent scopes that are in the short tube.  I'd leave it stock.  The SKS is only going to go up in value.  They are not that many still being imported.  After November, there may not be any at all.  I know I've seen a drop in the quanity at the gun shows.

i picked this one up at a flea market today. it came with a mount and scope for the receiver cover mount but i cant figure out how to get it mounted. it is a cheap simmons scope on it but i figure ill shoot it till it breaks then use open sights. i did shoot open sights on it today i shot 40 shells through it today and came t the conclusion that it is extremely accurate to 100 yards.

Receiver cover mounts are just a big old headache.  Don't bother.  You will waste too much money in ammo trying to get sighted in, realizing that your POI has changed, having to sight in again, etc.

The Choate drill and tap mount is the only way to go if you want a scope.  There really isn't any need for a scope as you are shooting to 150 yards (unless you have old eyes like me).

My Mosin is verrry accurate when fed the right ammo.  It likes commercial Winchester.
No scope and old eyes does not equal MOA, but with the right shooter, roller trigger, and scope, Who knows?

I got tired of local gun shops that aren't interested in ordering C&R guns for me and I went and got my C&RFFL03 license so i cut out the middleman with there BS.  Its the best thing i have ever done since i married the misses.(after 30+ years i'm still happy) Just kidding but trust me you get better deals, discounts on ammo and acessories, reloading stuff and gun parts too.  For just $30 for 3 years you can't beat the return on it you save more than $30 on your first purchase.  And it gets delivered to your door by the BBT(UPS).

Discounts at Brownells, numrich gun parts and midwayusa too.

I been reading the posts from a few years ago that the russian made barnaul ammo is a tad more accurate over the rest of the russian made stuff.  I have some of the very first 204gr 7,62x54r SP ammo and i just ordered some 7,62x39 SP and some 223 SP barnaul ammo from www.wideners.com  at good prices plus there very fast shipping really made me a happy customer.  I believe they also had some barnaul 7,62x54r soft point too.

Right now i'm looking for over the counter affordable "SP" ammo for my military guns so i can hunt with them.(mainly varmits but maybe deer/bear)

I find that most of my military guns are accurate enough to hunt with iron sights.  I use scopes for low light conditions, i can shoot later in the evenings and earlier in the mornings with a decent scope.

I mounted a scope on my sks using a  mosin style scopemount its rock solid.  There is one scopemount for an ak that can be cut and welded to fit an sks for just $19 and its a mosin style mount too.

Go to; www.polytechparts.com

then click on "shop now"

then click on "accessories & tools"

schroll down to #500-016 AKS scopemount

You need to cut it so it sits lower and weld it offset so the center of the scope is lined up with the centerline of the bore.  Then cutout the stock so the base can be screwed into the receiver.  Its like a yugo sniper setup once its done.  As long as you can cut and weld it, it will workout.
