HR Handi-rilfe barrel question
« on: August 18, 2008, 11:19:24 AM »
Just purchased a new to me used HR Handy 204. My question is there a 17 hmr barrel available for the handi-rifle on the barrel accessory  program?

I am afraid not. One is center fire the other a rim fire. There is no provision to make a switch from one to the other either :(. Sorry, you have to stick to the center fire cartridges.

Centerfires and rimfire barrels won't interchange on Handis, there have been some combos made in the past, but they're no longer made. A centerfire SB2 frame firing pin won't impact the rim of a rimfire round unless the bore is offset the same way the discontinued 22/410 Versa pack works. You can buy a 17hmr Sportster for not much more than it costs to buy an accessory barrel.

I forgot the most important thing - Welcome aboard. I suggest you read through the FAQ section at the top of this forum...A lot of good stuff there.

One thing you can do is buy a .17hmr or .17m2 barrel, and send it out to rechamber to a centerfire.....17 Ackley Hornet seems to be popular. That would make a nice "little brother" to your .204 barrel!

IIRC, there is a 17 for sale now in the classifieds!!

I'll also add that my 17M2 is THE most accurate rim-fire I ave ever fired. I have shot about all the best ones out there.  Weatherby's, Kimber's , Anshutz, Walthers and Browning T bolts. I'm talking some really good target guns. This Lil bugger form HR really shoots!!  The HMR is no slouch in its own right...

I just sold a Ruger 10/22 that I had converted into a 17HM2. Nice round but it didn't do much more than a .22lr. And the 22lr is much cheaper to shoot. I was hoping however to add a 17hmr to the mix. Guess not....

Thank you for the information

You will find the H&R to be more accurate and in no way a bullet eating slob like the 10/22. kurt
