Remington 700 HS stock to Savage action

I am in need of some help here guys, Long story short, Mcmilian dropped the ball on me and never actually made the stock i ordered some 4 months ago and the only other one i like is a hs but it is only made for a rem long action. Has anyone had experience retrofitting a rem stock to a savage? and if so was the end result good?

I've not done that conversion but a Sako one that is nearly as bad. If you,re not dealing with a metal bedding block it should be doable although there will be some bedding material showing if the action being put into the stock is smaller or shorter in some dimension. The Sako was pretty good but the barrel reenforce was too large for too long and would have projected beyond the top line of the forestock. I shall have to change the taper to elongate it enough to keep it inside the stock.. AcraGlass will fill the voids and give you the perfect bedding a rifle needs to perform.. bedding blocks though sure introduce a wild card. The expansion differencial between the block and the bedding material may well cause problems..

Thanks for the info, the stock i have purchased does have bedding blocks; however, my gunsmith seems fairly confident about this project. I hope he is right otherwise life will suck and I may be out $600. I am going to be durakoting this gun so hopefully it will hide the buildup of material needed to fill the gaps. HAve you had any experience with bedding blocks, and this time of retrofit?

No but I have had experience with blocks and bedding material..and not a good experience. I would suggest the recoil lug be adjusted to bear on the block or trap any bedding so that there is little or no shearing stress on any block/bedding bond. If the smith is good with it have a good day. You should remember I'm of the wood stock generation. While I can live with laminate stocks the pure synthetics just really leave me cold. I am sure they are great but just don't seem right to me.. Good luck with your project..

Bruno's has a lot of McMillan flat tops that just need inletted in stock.

Sounds like a lot less work to me.....
