Price check on a 30-06 ADL.

I stopped by the local gun store today on the way home from work. They had a new Remington 700 ADL 30-06 for $369.00. Is this a good price? I think it may be a good deal. It has sights and is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Dale

Wood or plastic stock?  The Wal-Mart down the road as a synthetic/blued .270 in the case for $377, and the laminate/blued 30-06 for, I think, $529 (does that sound right, hmm??)  I'd say that it's definitely in the ballpark, price-wise.  Maybe walk in with $350 cash and say out the door?  Who knows, they might do it.

I'd say that's about the average for them in my area.  If you like it, you're not getting ripped off, if that's what you're worried about.  Go and dicker with them, if you get some $$ knocked off or maybe some free scope mounts/bases, then I'd say you did well.

You see I have a delema now. I have been looking for the perfect Groundhog, White Tail deer rifle. I have been torn between the 7MM-08 and the 308 as of late. In the last few days I decided I was just going to go with the 308 because there is no such thing as over kill goes as far as Groundhogs go. When I went into the shop I asked the guy what he could get me a SPS Varmint 308 or a VTR 308 for. The SPS was $539.00 and the VTR was $649.00. This almost makes me want to buy a Remington SPS 22-250 Varmint for Groundhogs and buy that 30-06 ADL for White Tail Deer. Dale ::) :-\

That's what I'd do.  I'd also consider the .223 over the .22-250 because it's so cheap to shoot.

There are only 3 really useful centerfire rifle cartridges in this world.

All the rest are just also rans.

I have a soft spot for the .30-30 & the .45-70 too.  I don't need them, I just really enjoy them.

I would have to disagree there for sure. There are many more usefull cartridges than the ones you have come up with. The 22-250 way out preforms the 223 as one example. I am not going to get in a pissing match over what round is better because everyone has their own oppion on what is best. Dale

The easy answer is that there's NO PERFECT RIFLE.    :o  If there was, we wouldn't need to buy new rifles all of the time.   ;D Then the gunmakers would go out of business.  Then where would we be?   ;)  If it were me, I'd buy both of them if you can get them for the same or almost the same as one gun.  If you haven't considered it, and don't mind a single shot, the Encore might be right up your alley.  Or the CVA Optima Elite, but I'm not a big fan of CVA. Although for the prices on them right now, I'm considering one.

Do you reload?  If you reload buy the 30-06.  Shoot any bullet weight you want just about.  You can load it for groundhogs to bears. 

Ever since I bought my savage 30-06 I've just been loosing interest in almost every other rifle I've got.  I'd buy that used gun because around here that'd be a pretty good price, and you can customize it anyway you'd like.  Brand new guns just seem to be getting way too expensive anymore.
