Contender G2 Trigger

What was the trigger like on your NIB contender G2?

What is involved in a G2 trigger job?  Is it a DIY or Gunsmith task?

mine is great.  No creep or overtravel.  I don't have a trigger gauge to measure the pull,  but it seems good.

Out of the box it is pretty good with no creep or overtravel.  About 3 pounds pull.  There is info on the internet about triggerjobs for G2 if you need it.

2.5 - 3lbs is what I'm looking for.  Seemed like the ones I've handled in the store so far have been a bit stiffer.

Drop, go to mlleb (spelled backwards), tc's.com. At his web site, you'll find all the info you need. Great info as far I and quite a few others are concerned. Or, just type in MLLEB (spelled backwards) under a Yahoo search.

So what's with the magic decoder ring stuff?  I assume your trying to duck a filter?

Nice site, by the way.

I much prefer the G2 trigger to the older style.

I also prefer the easier opening of the action and the fact that if it cocks, it will go off.

With the older style, if your headspace was a little tight (something that handloaders strive for) the hammer would drop and it wouldn't fire because it was not properly locked up.

That is fine and dandy, but I like the idea of knowing it is not properly locked before I actually try to shoot it.

Out of the box my G2 trigger weighs in at 4.5lbs.  What did you do to improve yours?  I'm looking into the kits mentioned previously at the moment.

that trigger spring replacement would most likely be your BEST route. download the free encore trigger job instructions there, and it works with the G2 also.
VVCG did one of my encore frames at 2lbs. excellent job!
now..... 8)  on my G2 and other encore frames......all i did was remove the trigger guard, and tweak(weaken) the factory trigger spring by pushing the end of it toward the inside of the frame.

On the other G2 + trigger thread:

Kyode said:

1.) Remove one screw that holds in the trigger guard. It has just a few threads on one end, and then pushes out easily with a 3/32" punch. The trigger guard then comes off. This leaves the trigger shoe dangling alone.

2.) Then push out another 3/32" pin that holds the trigger shoe itself. This pin as well just pushes out easily, and no beating is required. the trigger itself comes out of the frame.

3.) Looking down into the frame, you see the trigger spring. It has an L shaped end that hooks in a hole in the trigger shoe. Just take a flat screw driver and shove the end of the exposed spring down toward the inside of the frame, thereby just weakening or stretching the trigger spring.

4.) Reassemble and test. The G2 spring seemed to weaken easier than the encore. The encore, i pushed 4 times to get the pull i wanted. the G2, i pushed twice and it was too light & the hammer would not cock. I readjusted but it's still really light. I would just push down on the spring once and test.

It's really easy, and i learned it from sixgun or maybe jeff vicars(i forget). i have a replacement **** spring, but didn't even use it. that would involve going deeper into the frame, and i figured i'd try this first. so far, so good. I'd say my G2 is about 1 1/2 lbs or so. 2-3lbs would be light enough for hunting, in my opinion.

You didn't mention we needed to get that tiny spring contained in the trigger under the trigger guard pin...  My G2 didn't need much correction, so I pushed down only once and not very far - it's perfect for me. I don't have a trigger pull gauge, but I'm guessing 2.5 lbs or so, which is just right for hunting with the heavy calibers I plan to use on this stronger frame. Thanks again!

I purchased and today received M. Be11m's trigger spring kit and instructions (which are very nicely done).  But I wasn't feeling up to replacing the spring, so I tried the above (Kyode's) method first and it worked like a champ.  After a couple of 'pushes' I had a clean 2.5lb trigger.  Getting the tiny trigger return spring (inside the trigger) back beneath the trigger guard pivot pin was indeed the greatest challenge of the entire job, but with Be11m's notes and a spring hook I was able to get the job done.  Probably will keep the spring kit just in case, but I don't think I'll need it.

Many Thanks to all!

8)  as a note, it is possible, that using this method, you may be able to "push off" the cocked hammer with a hard thumb push. this can be corrected with  Be11m's instructions. it may be undesirable, by some. the last encore frame i did......the hammer will not push off. my G2, and another encore frame will. :?

So to test for this 'push off' scenario, I c0ck the hammer and push forward on it?  how hard?
