Shootin blackpowder in a 45/70 handi rifle
« on: August 24, 2008, 12:30:41 PM »
Howdy ya'll

I'm big into Cowboy Action Shooting and we shoot some long range too. Was wondering if any of ya'll have shot bp in your handi's? Curious about bullet weight. I slugged my barrel the other day and found it to be .458 so I figure to use a .459 dia. bullet. Have molds for 405, 500 and the 535gr and have a good bp lube that I like to use in my c&b bullets.
 Anybody tried it?
Andrew

Yep , been there , doing that , I just use a .459 dia / 405g soft cast with a grease cookie under the bullet , works very well with true BP and most of the BP subs too .

And being a Handi , clean up is a snap , just pop off the barrel and clean away , the last Ohio shoot a few of us were poping BP rounds , love the smoke .  ;D

I'll try some of my 405's and give them a try. Thanks
