1871 Target Rifle with Buffington sight
« on: September 09, 2008, 02:44:44 PM »
A new guy with questions.

Track of the wolf has for sale the rifles in the title.

"This Model 1871 Wesson & Harrington tip open target rifle is stocked in walnut with checkered wrist and forearm. The 28" tapered round barrel is chambered in .38-55. Factory issued with no sights, this rifle has a globe front sight with a set of inserts, and a Trapdoor Springfield Buffington rear sight installed."

Farther along in the text they mention that the spent case is ejected when the action is opened.

Does the presence of an ejector indicate that the rifles were made before 2007 (before good barrels is what I am wondering)?

I thought that the 38-55s came with sights. ??

The Wesson & Harrington was the pre-Marlin (pre-2000)version of the H&R BC and Target, they didn't come with sights. Moot point now on the 38-55 as it was discontinued this year. All of those made since about 2006 have extractors. The Buffington sight has been added aftermarket.

Thanks, quickdtoo.  I think that I will look elsewhere for a 38-55, or maybe just get a 45-70.
