Lee loader Manually adjusting neck size
« on: September 02, 2008, 04:21:23 PM »
I bought a Lee loader for my Russian Mosin-Nagant just out of curiosity. It cost about the same as a set of Lee dies, and I wanted to see how they work. I doudt that I will load this round much.

It worked, but the bullet was a loose fit. I think that the Privi Partizen brass I used may have a thin neck, and the loader has to assume a certain neck thickness since there is no expander ball.

Just for the heck of it I got out a pair of pliers used for crimping connectors on TV cable. I lightly clamped the neck and rotated the shell. The bullet held perfectly.

I plan to try this on a useless Hornaday 7mm neck sizing die for my 7-30 waters (it has a similar problem).

Mike

The only down side I see is keeping the same neck tention but your not dealing with a bench rest gun here , you may want to invest in a neck sizing die to cure this problem or just get diffrent brass .

That is an interesting problem. I have used the Loader set up in the past and never had a "loose" neck after sizing. A couple things to check might be:
1) make sure the bottom of the case rim is flush with the die surface after tapping it in
2) check the bullet diameter and if you have access to pin gages, check the neck ID
3) contact Lee Precision and describe the problem. They have always been helpful and gone out of their way to help when I have contacted them.
