renegade round ball barrel

have a chance to buy a 1-66 renegade barrel and have a few questions. First dose this
barrel have that QLA or is it rifled to the end. Second are these good shooters I like the fact it's 30 in not 33 like the GM barrels. I have a 1-70 GM on my TC hawkens and
it's a shooter should I expect the same from the TC 1-66

 Hi Bigfish44:  I shoot a 1:66 .54 patch roundball TC drop-in on my TC renegade. I've shot fun and competitition with my 1:48 stoc .54 barrel for the past 5 years. My 1:66 barrel is rifled to the bore end with a slight rounded rim at the muzzle. The load  i've started to like is 60gr 3F Goex with .53 sweged rb and 0.18 patch with mule snot patch lube. It is a great load at 25/50 yds. For 100yds I'm still trying for the best but 75gr3f and 5more clicks works pretty good. I get better percision than using 65 or 70gr. I'm using the stock sights from TC. Hope this info is what you were looking for ... Good shootin' to ya: LogEye

I would not hesitate.  I shoot a 1:66 TC barrel on my hawken .50 cal 75-80 gr FF.  Could probably load it heavier but I'd bet the diminishing returns kick in around 85-90.  It's front heavy and i like it.  Mine does not have qla but even if the one you're considering does, I'd still buy it if price was right.  I've shot prb in a qla barrel and didn't notice anything in terms of accuracy but that's just me.  If you buy it let us know what you find.

The 1 in 66 is optimum for the patched round ball as you know but I could usually hold my own with a 1 in 48".
I had seen the GM drop-ins preform and they did ok but am not familure with the T/C 1 in 66"
I would go ahead and buy that barrel (if you like it) as IMO, most of the accuracy gains is because of the shooter with most barrels being ok.

I can only say that MY T/C 1-66 barrel does NOT match the many Green Mountain barrels I've owned. There is more to it than just the twist, GM barrels are cut rifled with grooves .012" deep. T/C's are button rifled only .005" deep and that makes a big difference, bigger than the twist factor.

My T/C Renegade .50 cal. 1 in 66" twist barrel shoots better than I am capable of using the open sights.  The only drawback is that the groups don't tighten up until 100 grs. of Goex ffg.  Mine does not have the QLA (which is a PITA when using precut round patches).    BTW, the T/C 1 in 66" barrels are deep cut rifling, their 1 in 48" barrels have the shallow rifling.
