...A "heads up"...
« on: August 28, 2008, 11:57:24 AM »
I did my usual yearly stint at the NY State Fair at Syracuse this past weekend. Before and after demonstrations, I talked to many fine folks.
   Syracuse is about 70 miles from Ilion, NY..home of Remington, so at one point I talked to a fellow who just retired from Remington;
He had worked some years in the wood finish and custom shop.
I asked him about the comparatively recent sellout of Remington to a conglomerate. He said the new management seemed more concerned
with getting rich while very young, rather than having any angst over the quality.
Hesitatingly, i asked how our NEFs and Marlins may fare with the new management..he did not hold out any great hope !

IG, thanks for sharing, but that's just his opinion, and we all know about opinions!! ;)  I've got more positive actual appraisals of the new management from my Marlin contact who is in management, I wouldn't set much store on the retired Remington pessimist's thoughts, misguided speculation runs rampant here, please don't feed the chicken littles. :D

"just retired from Remington"

That says it all.

C'mon folks, why would Remington go to the trouble of moving equipment, training people, setting up the facility, etc. if they weren't committed to producing a quality product??

Remington could have just as easily had a big yard sale and got rid of the whole place.

My personal opinion is that Big Green is going to improve the lineup to better compete with the likes of TC. Yeah prices may go up but wouldn't it be nice to buy a barrel off the shelf instead of sending your frame in for factory fitting??
Some better wood instead of plain jane "pallet wood"??
More caliber choices would be nice too wouldn't it??

I think too many people are ready to jump on the "we're screwed" bandwagon before the ball is even rolling at Ilion.

Let't be patient and see how things work themselves out.

Just my opinion, I know alot of you won't agree with me and that's OK.

You're correct Tim, he was surely speaking his opinion..I didn't underline that idea, figuring that I didn't have to do so
since I explained it was an informal one-on-one discussion..not any kind of formal declaration.

  truly just his opinion..

I've read a few articles about the DPMS and Bushmaster setups (factorys) and said that Remington's main concern was to review production and quality control.  If they are making the effort to do this, then I'm sure that the NEF / H&R setup will be no different.  I agree w/ the statement that it would be silly for them to set up a new facility only to do away w/ the NEF line.  For a company that seems obsessed w/ quality control and profit, they must see something positive in the NEF's die hard fan club.  :)  Just my opinion though... I actually think that they would rather do away w/ the Spartan line than do away w/ NEF... I actually won't be surprised if the quality of NEF/H&R goes up! :) Not that it is bad... just my $0.02
